The new edition of ISO 9001 is expected to be published in September 2026, replacing ISO 9001:2015 after more than a decade.
Certified organisations get a three-year transition period – until around September 2029 – to update their system and pass a transition audit. After the deadline, ISO 9001:2015 certificates are no longer valid.
It’s an evolution of ISO 9001:2015 rather than an overhaul, with a sharper focus on quality culture, risk, and climate considerations. A well-built 2015 system is the right foundation – it needs a structured update, not a rebuild.
There’s no need to rush, but there is real value in planning ahead: early movers convert on their own schedule, fold the changes into normal internal audits, and avoid the certification-body bottleneck near the 2029 deadline.
